Fan Fic a journey

My journey into the world of fanfic is an interesting one. I started reading fanfic when I was really into Stargate Atlantis (not sure if you remember that show) it was a spin off of Stargate SG-1 which was a spin off of the movie Stargate. Any who I had gone down the rabbit hole that I tend to get into when I become obsessed with something and that was it. One of my twitter friends had a bunch of stargate fanfic suggestions she posted regularly on her twitter and I thought to myself HOLY CRAP what is that.

Turns out there is some fantastic fanfic and some really really horrible ones. So I got off the train and went on to another obsession. Then poof and magically (cause they are totally different) I got sucked down into the rabbit hole known as BTS and I wanted to consume everything they had attached to their names. This included their albums, music videos, dance videos, get to know them videos, fan made videos, and then slowly I descended into the mad world of fanfiction again. At first I was completely overwhelmed. If you type in AO3 (Archieve of Our own) website and then in the search button type literally just BTS you will get 116,121 searches found. That is a lot...

Then if you narrow it down you have to know how to narrow it down. The first few times I did this the world I jumped into was mind boggling. I didn't feel comfortable with pairing the boys up, I didn't feel comfortable with anything out of the norm. I didn't like the way they were written or god forbid someone made them to feminine. In other words I just didn't understand the whole spectrum of fanfiction out there.

Then I found a fic called Extreme Obsession by saylilirose and my whole freaking world was rocked. This fic had a theme called Yandere and I had no idea what that fully met until this fic. It has drug use, death, all kinds of character hook ups, plus a Y/N (took forever to realize I was suppose to insert my name) It was so shocking to my system that I couldn't stop reading it every chance I got. I read 557,740 words and 88 chapters in a week. I've never read a book that big before and this was fanfiction. I became obsessed (yes pun intended). I wanted to read everything BTS fanfic world that I could. Good God I devoured it all.

I finally discovered there is a world out there of ARMY that have specific ships (two or more BTS members in a relationship of any kind) I also discovered that some of those shippers are die hard and do not like any negative thoughts, feedback or comments. Then I discovered that there is different types of fanfic. From your basic BTS member x reader, to BTS member x BTS member, to Yandere (which is basically the US version of stalker) to Hybrid (that one took a LONG time for me to be on board with. It is basically a BTS member who is also 1/2 animal you pick and how that works with either Y/N or another member) there was supernatural (vampire, werewolf, hunter, witch) stories, and there were A/B/O (Alpha, Beta, Omega stories again with BTS x reader or BTS x BTS members) Then I ran into crossovers like BTS as students in Hogwarts, or BTS in a non-idol world, or BTS as (insert your favorite TV show) and the list just grew. I was so absorbed with this that I quit reading "normal books" and only read fanfiction during 2019 as I just couldn't stop.

Now that I have been in this world for a year I have noticed that I am a lot more picky when it comes to my fanfic, I have determined what topics I will read and what I will avoid (weirdly enough mafia is a hit or miss for me but I will go into that at another time. Don't even get me started on horror fanfic that is a HARD PASS) I now know that I clearly don't have a ship except that I don't like JHope with anyone other than Yoongi. Yet Yoongi I am okay if he is with pretty much everyone but V. Jin I like with everyone but Hobi, and RM can only be with Kookie, Jimin or Jin in my head. Don't get me started on Jimin I feel like he can pretty much be with anyone (as they tend to make him feminine however when they make him dominate I kind of lose my mind in a good way) V again tends to get paired with Jimin, Kookie or RM and I only really like him Jimin sometimes RM. One story and I wish I could find it again had him and Jin together with reader and I was into that.

Needless to say my taste have either evolved or devolved depending how you look at it. But, I am proud to say that I am a BTS fanfic reader and enjoy it enough to eve review it as I read them and highly suggest others.

So how about you?
How did you discover fanfic? Do you have a favorite ship or pair?
Who would you recommend both writer and story?
